Most people’s initial reaction to hearing they are visiting a ‘butter museum’ will vary from a polite ‘I am washing my hair that morning’ to flat out refusals. However the old adage never judge a book by its cover could equally be applied here ‘never judge a museum by the sign on the door’!
Back in the 18th century, Cork was the biggest butter producer in the world and its famous produce was shipped to every corner of the British Empire. Described in the Financial Times as a ‘Do not miss’, the museum has various exhibits and an interesting audio visual presentation detailing the history of butter in the region and its importance to Cork over the centuries. People hear the words butter museum and are maybe reluctant about visiting, but practically everyone ends up pleasantly surprised. If you are still not sure, what’s definitely worth checking out are the coffee & scones while here…mmmm!!
